THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

TEXT: "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you" (John 16:7).

Holy Spirit is the most misunderstood member of the Godhead. Many people believe that the Holy Spirit is a force, fire or wind. However, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity and often referred to as 'He.' So, like the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit is God.

We need the Holy Spirit because Jesus promised to send another one like Him. In John chapters 15 and 16, Jesus told the disciples that after He returned to the Father He would send another Comforter (John 15:26, 16:5-7). He would send another Comforter means that all that He had been to them the Spirit would continue to be to them. It is the Holy Spirit who is our ever present Helper, Comforter and Counsellor today in the same way Jesus was to the disciples over two thousand years ago.

We need the Holy Spirit because He teaches us all things and reveals the truth of Scripture to us (John 14:26, 1Cor 2:10-14). This teaching and revealing work of the Holy Spirit is known as illumination. It is important that we understand this because the Bible says for us to understand the deep things of God, we need the wisdom, teaching and illumination of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 2:6-16).

If you haven't been baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues yet, seek God's face this month because struggles end when the Holy Ghost is at work in one's life!

PRAYER: The Holy Ghost shall take over that issue in your life and turn it to a testimony, in Jesus name.
