TEXT: “And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son” (1Kings 17:13). 

I want to start by saying that if we will retain the Power of the Holy Ghost on our life, we must put our priorities right. Prophet Elijah's second instruction addressed the widow's priorities. How do I mean? When the widow woman told Elijah her problem, Elijah had an interesting response: “And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: BUT MAKE ME THEREOF A LITTLE CAKE FIRST, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.” Take note of the words in capital letters. The word ‘first’ is a significant word in this verse. Elijah appeared to be insensitive right? No he wasn't! He knew that this poor widow had little food yet he asked her to provide food for him first. By telling her this, Elijah was applying a basic principle for receiving God's blessing.

This principle applies to our finances and also applies to everything else. Do you want the blessings of God to keep flowing in your life, family, academic, vocation, profession, relationships, business and your ministry? Then apply the priorities principle. Give first to God and God who doesn’t owe, will give you what you need and even more. That was what happened to this poor widow. She offered to God first by providing for the man of God and she never had to go hungry again all through the famine. Beloved, you need to consecrate your life to God. Let Him be the first in your life and in your spending and your oil of abundance will continue to overflow.

The third instruction that prophet Elijah gave to her is that of obedience. I want you to place yourself in the widow's situation. You are in the midst of economic recession where there is no food. All you have left is a handful of flour and a little oil in a jug. All you can do is eat and thereafter die. But suddenly, someone, maybe Pastor Israel Olorunfemi appears and tells you, "Before you and your son eat, give me something to eat first ." What would you have done? What would you have said? Disobedience has ruined the jar of many and caused the oil to spill. Many believers are anointed by God to minister with signs and wonders. God commands them to pray for the sick in His name so He may heal them while very many others are anointed millionaires through giving. But instead of following God's instructions that came to them from God's servants, they become afraid; lose their faith and end up disobeying the instructions that would have put them on the top for life. No more disobedience! 

PRAYER: Receive grace to live a God-first lifestyle and an obedient life, in the name of Jesus.
