HOW TO RETAIN POWER - Pt 1

TEXT: "And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son" (1Kings 17:13). 

Welcome to the last week of June 2022. One thing I know is that before the end of this month, your long awaited miracle shall be delivered, in Jesus name. 

Beloved child of God, it is not enough to be empowered with the Holy Spirit, it is equally important that we know how to retain the power of God that is in us. I believe Eljah in today's anchor scripture has something to teach us about that. The anointing/oil which we shall be using in this context also means Power. Jesus was anointed with Power (Acts 10:38). Let's consider the encounter of Elijah with the widow at Zarephath. He came to her as she was preparing firewood for the last meal she and her son had. When Elijah asked for bread and water, she told him that they had run out of food; that all they had left was a handful of flour and a little oil and that when that is gone, she and her son would die.

This situation illustrates the condition of many believers today. They are Christians and the oil of the Holy Spirit is upon them but, their spiritual lives are as good as dead; they barely have any oil in their jugs. Many people are aware that their situation is like that of the widow of Zarephath. They had prepared themselves for their spiritual death. They resign themselves to living Christian lives without joy and without power. They Iive without expectation, just waiting to die. Maybe this situation fits into what you are passing through right now. Elijah gave the widow a list of instructions to prevent her oil from running out. These we shall examine the remaining days left in this month.

The first instruction that Elijah gave the widow had to do with her maintaining a correct attitude. He said to her: "Fear not" (1Kings 17:13). By that, Elijah was simply telling this widow to stop believing that she and her son were going to die. She had to free her mind of negative thoughts and unbelief. Today, just like this widow, the spirit of fear has held many Christians in bondage and hindered them from living an abundant life God has for them. 

For instance, the moment this set of people received a miracle or a blessing, they start thinking, I wonder how long this will last. Or perhaps they are afraid of losing the fresh oil, the new experience that they received from the Lord. My dear child of God, don't allow yourself to become immersed in unbelief, doubts and fear. This is not from God. When God anointed you with His Holy Spirit at baptism, He didn't give you a spirit of timidity or fear. The oil that descended upon you the day you were baptised in the Holy Spirit came with the spirit of love, power and of a sound mind (2Tim 1:7). Do away with that fear and unbelief today and your oil shall never run dry.

TODAY'S ACTION STEP:

* Pray in the Holy Spirit for at least 15mins today. 

PRAYER: Every spirit of fear holding your life and destiny down is cast out today and forever, in Jesus name.

DAILY CONFESSION: This year 2022, I am more than conqueror by the Power of the Holy Spirit therefore I shall continue to celebrate all through the year, hallelujah!
