TEXT: "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven" (Matt 16:19)
I woke up this morning with a strong feeling that this week is a week of someone's turnaround testimony - I'm referring to you that is reading this devotional this morning. Your turnaround experience is starting now, in Jesus name. Can you type your amen?
Read with me the book of Luke 3:21 for emphasis sake as we proceed. It says: "Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened." When everyone was being baptised only the Lord Jesus was praying. No wonder heaven was opened unto Him.
From today's anchor scripture, we can conclude that we belong to a Kingdom where only the key holders are entitled to partake in the blessings of the kingdom. This is because, there is no blessing of God without a key that unlocks it. Jesus told Peter in the above scripture that He will give Peter keys of the kingdom of heaven. This validates the fact that key holders are leaders in any field of endeavor. Without the use of the right key, struggle is inevitable. Therefore, it is not enough to just have a key, you must have the right key to be able to enjoy open heavens.
What are these keys that unlock heavens? This shall be our focus today and few days from today. Heaven doesn't just open, we need to play a part by applying the right keys. Today I will like us to examine one of these keys.
THE KEY OF PRAYER.
Prayer is a powerful key that can unlock the doors of heaven any day and anytime. Heavens will always open over the head of the one who knows how to pray. The Bible says in Jeremiah chapter 33:3, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show you great and mighty things which thou knowest not." Prayer is a key given to us to enjoy open heavens.
"About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened..." (Read Acts 10:9-16). What was Peter doing on the housetop? He was praying. The Presence of God came upon him in such a mighty way that he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened. Would it have been possible for him to have this experience without praying? I believe the answer is no. Peter had positioned himself to hear from the Lord, so he went up to pray. He could have been in a million different places doing different things at that time, but he chose to go to the housetop to pray. As a result, the vision that he saw changed his whole life. How many times have we missed it because we failed to pray? It is time to pray earnestly for our heaven to open.
PRAYER: Your prayer life shall be revived and your heavens shall continually open, in Jesus name.
DAILY CONFESSION: This year 2022, I am more than conqueror by the Power of the Holy Spirit therefore I will continue to celebrate all through the year, hallelujah!
