TEXT: "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come" (1Tim 4:8).
Be reminded that this month of March, in the MTD family is our month of "All Round Profits." In our journey in life, God's plan is that we make profits. He said He will teach our hands to profit (Isaiah 48:17). The meaning of today's anchor scripture is that godliness guarantees all round profits in life. It says: "Godliness is profitable unto all things." Beloved, if anything is profitable, it means it pays a great deal.
Living for God is godliness and it is the most profitable life one can ever live. The Bible says it is profitable unto all things. There are those who would say, "serving God will pay off in the next life. We may not have much to show for it in this life." But that's not true! Apostle Paul said: "Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is..." The life that now is means right now in this present world. There is a life that now is, and there is a life that is to come. The life that "now is" is the life I'm living right now. So it is profitable in the now. Godliness is a highly profitable two-way virtue that guarantees eternity after now and ensures all-round profiting on the earth. If this is so, we must therefore put up a fight against every form of ungodliness else we live under the oppression of sin perpetually.
How is godliness profitable in the now?
1. Godliness ensures promotion. Consider what God did for Joseph because he stayed true to God. Yes, he was sold into captivity (Gen 37:23-28). Yes, he was put into prison (Gen 39:20). But God blessed him in all of these. Ordinarily, a man would become bitter after spending years in prison. But because Joseph was faithful to God, God promoted him and made him Prime Minister of the greatest nation of that day (Gen 41:38-41).
Did it pay him to be faithful to God? Did godliness pay off for Joseph? Did it pay him to say "No!" to his master's wife when she tried to seduce him (Gen 39:7-9)? Yes! Joseph spent years in prison. Most men would have given up on God by then but not Joseph. God may not pay you the day you expect Him but, I want you to know that someday payday in God is coming!
2. Godliness empowers us for supernatural breakthrough. Job is an example of this truth, going by the testimony of God about him. "There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?" (Job 1:1, 8). Godliness gave Job divine secret on all issues and he became the greatest of all men in the east because of this. He said, "As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle" (Job 29:4). When he was seriously challenged, he never sinned against God. He overcame his challenge and became doubly richer and greater.
If you will enjoy all round profits in life, you must walk with God and in your walk with God, you must stay godly. The truth is, one cannot be crafty and expect to enjoy profits.
PRAYER: Grace for godly lifestyle is released upon you this morning, in Jesus name.
