TEXT: "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed" (Gen 12:3)

God wants us to enjoy all round profits by His blessing upon our lives. But why is this so? Why will God bless us with all round profits? Is it to amass wealth unto ourselves or to feel great or are there other reasons why we are blessed by God? We need to understand this. Myles Munroe of blessed memory once said, "When a purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable."

The truth is that God blesses His children (you) basically so that they (you) can be a blessing. God blesses you not for you to consume it on your lust but so you can be a blessing to others. You never get blessed anymore than you are committed to be a blessing. Abraham was not only blessed, all the generations after him were blessed. God said to him: "...and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed" (Gen 12:3). So, Abraham did not just have prosperity, he had prosperity with posterity.

Second Kings chapter seven tells a fascinating story of four lepers who sat at the gate of Samaria at a time when the city was under siege. Things had gotten so bad inside the city that women were eating their own children to survive. But Elisha the prophet had predicted something that seemed utterly impossible, that the next day food would be surplus and affordable in Samaria.

Meanwhile, the four lepers evaluated their pitiful situation. If they stayed at the gate of Samaria, they would starve. If they went over to the enemy's camp, they may be killed, which would be no worse than starving. But there was the outside chance that the enemy would take pity on them and give them some scraps of food. So they took their chances and went over to the enemy's camp. When they got there, they were shocked to find the camp deserted. The Lord had caused the enemy to hear the sound of a great army of chariots and horses so that they fled in a panic, leaving all of their supplies behind. The four lepers ate all that they could eat. They hauled away and hid several loads of silver and gold and clothes.

But then their consciences began to prick them. They said: "We’re not doing right. This is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent" (2Kings 7:9). So they went and told the starving city where they could find abundant supplies to satisfy their needs.

Beloved, God will not bless you just for you to accumulate wealth. The life of a man does not consist in the abundance of things he has (Lk 12:15). God will not bless you to be an accumulator but to be a distributor. He will not bless you to be a collector rather He will bless you so that you can be a channel of blessing just like the four lepers.

Ancient proverb says: "There is only one crime worse than murder in the desert, and that is to know where the water is and not tell." God has blessed us with spiritual blessings and promises to bless us even more with material and financial resources. But He didn't bless us so that we can feel good, turning deaf ear to the plight of others. He blessed us so that we may become a blessing to people around us. If you’re blessed with either much or little, but you don’t have your focus on blessing others, you're not yet ready for the dimension that God purposes for you. He blessed you so that you may become a blessing.
