TEXT: "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee" (Exo 20:12)

We bless the Lord God Almighty for preserving our lives to see the last day of the month. His name be praised forever, in Jesus name. 

As we round up for the month today, I will like to say that many times, we want to receive and retain God's blessings in our lives, but most of the times we do not play our part on this process. Beloved, it is not wise for you to wait for your blessing to come and meet you. You should play your part. You must be ready to draw God's attention for the release of your blessing. You must know what to do and keep doing it to keep the blessings of God flowing in your life.

An avenue through which the blessings of God flow into one's life is through earthly parents. This is called parental blessing. This is the blessing that comes from your biological parents. As children of God, we owe our parents honour and they owe us blessing in return. Anytime you honour your parents, the blessings of the Lord become inevitable in your life. The book of Ephesians 6:2-3 says: "Honour thy father and mother which is the first commandment, with that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." This portion of scripture refers to the blessings of all aspects of your life. The first responsibility of every child to the parent from the Lord is honour. As parents, no matter what your child must have done to you, be very careful with the kind of words you pronounce on him or her because the negative words you pronounce on your children can as well affect them negatively even if you don’t mean it.

If you have done anything wrong to your parents, humble yourself and go on your knees to ask for their forgiveness. Many have attracted curses in life because they dishonour their parents. You honour parents by taking good care of them and in return you attract their blessings. In Genesis 27:1-4, Isaac called his first son Esau to prepare him venison that which he loves so that his soul could bless him. Venison is a typology of what you offer to your parents that gladdens their heart. It could be cash or materials items to attract their blessings. In other words, no venison, no blessing because it is the venison you offer that attract the blessing to you.

Many people want parental blessings but cannot honour their parents because of one thing or the other. Your parents are your parents no matter what. If you desire parental blessings, then take care of your parents. Do not forget your parents or elderly people in your family. Whatever it is you want to do for them do it fast and now. Each day that passes takes them closer to the grave. You need their blessing.
