TEXT: "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts" (James 4:3)
As we round up for the week, I will like to point out another very important covenant step to effective prayer which is (8 ) Right Motive. We must deal with our motives if God would answer our prayers. You ask and receive not because you did not ask but partly because you ask with the wrong motive - that you may consume it upon your lusts. Wrong motive makes one to pray amiss and when your prayer is not in line with God's plan for your life, He will deny you the answer. Even if you put to work all the steps discussed so far, when your request is contrary to God's plan for your life, the prayer will not receive a favourable response from heaven.
A story in the Bible I want to use to illustrate how one can ask God for something contrary to God's plan is the story of the lame man at the beautiful gate in Acts 3. This man asked for something but was given something else. He asked for alms instead of healing, that is what it means to ask amiss. Thank God for the grace of God that located him. "Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk" (Acts 3:6). Is like Peter telling him: "You want money, but what you need is healing."
Beloved, God wants to meet your needs and not your wants. Do you really need what you are praying for? What is your motive for praying for financial breakthrough or business open doors? Scrutinise the motive behind your prayer and let it be for the purpose of affecting the kingdom of God and to help the needy. This is what guarantee speedy answers.
PRAYER: God will meet your needs today, in Jesus name.
