TOPIC: WHAT FACILITATES ANSWERS TO PRAYERS - PT 1
Matt 7:7 "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."
You've probably heard people say, "I have prayed and fasted but it didn't work." Well, the fact is,
there are thousands of prayers that go up every day with very few answers. Why is that so? Is prayer something we just con ourselves into and pretend that it works? Why are so many prayers unanswered if God actually answers prayers?
The truth is, God has laid down several conditions for answered prayer. We’re going to be looking at them one after the other.
1: RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD (John 15:7). Jesus says: "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." You must bear in mind that every promise of God has conditions attached. The promise here is, "I will give you whatever you ask in prayer." The condition is: "If you abide in Me."
How do we abide in Him? The next sentence tells us, "When His words abide in us." God requires that we listen to Him first before He listens to us. He says: "He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, even his prayer is an abomination" (Prov 28:9). If I don't pay attention to what God says to me in His word, why should He pay attention to me when I talk to Him?
The starting point therefore, is to have a good relationship with God through His word. That's why Bible study is important.
