TOPIC: WHAT FACILITATES ANSWERS TO PRAYERS - PT 4
James 4:3 "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."
Another very important factor that facilitates answered to prayers is "Right motives." Today text says: "You ask and don't receive because
you ask with the wrong motive..that you may spend what you get on your own pleasures" (vs 2-3).
Motive is important in prayer. WHAT you pray for is not as important as WHY. It is possible to pray for the right thing with wrong motive. However, God is not against you praying for your personal needs. Jesus encourages us to do so. He taught us to pray to God to "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matt 6:11). But our motive must not be selfish.
What is the motive behind your prayer? God is not interested in simply satisfying our selfishness. Let your requests be kingdom-focused and how to be a channel of blessing to other people when answers come.
Look at the contents of Elijah's prayer: "Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that THOU ART THE LORD GOD,..." (1Kgs 18:37). That was not selfish motive. He was not trying to show off. His motive was for God to be glorified. "Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones,... And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God" (vvs 38-39). Set your motive right and your prayers shall return to you as testimonies of answers.
PRAYER: There shall be rain of answers in your life this season in Jesus name.
Be reminded that tomorrow Wednesday 15th May, 2019 is MTD Family prayer and fasting. Theme: POWER FOR CONQUEST (Lk 4:14). Prepare to encounter God on the altar of prayer and fasting. Don't be left out.
