THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ALTAR

TEXT: "And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as  would contain two measures of seed" (1Kings 18:32)

One of the things that Elijah did that made the fire to fall was that he built an altar unto the Lord. What is the significance of this action?

Firstly, altars are places where the divine and human interact. Altars are places of exchange, places of communication and influence. We see God in scripture responding actively to altar activities. The contest between Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal that involved an altar is a demonstration of interaction between God Almighty and the gods of Baal. Dearly beloved, that situation in your life is waiting for the building of your altar.

Secondly, altar speaks of sacrifice. When altar is mentioned in the Old Testament what comes to mind is sacrifice. Sacrifice is an exchange of costly value for value. It is a form of transaction that involves deep seated thoughts and meditation. Everything has a price but sacrifice is one of the greatest prices one can ever pay. Noah built an altar and offered a sacrifice to God. God smelled the aroma and found it pleasing. He responded to Noah's action by declaring that he would never again destroy all living things through a flood. Dear child of God, the flood in your life is waiting for you to raise an altar like Noah did. One nature of sacrifices is that it is never a once and for all thing. You can't say I've sacrificed before so I won't do again. No! A Sacrifice is once and again and again and again thing.

 

The altar of sacrifice is powerful because God specifically has respect and regard for the Altar of Sacrifice (Prov 22:7). God does not have any need and your sacrifice to God is not necessarily a payment in exchange for something. Instead, by sacrifice, God only shows you what to do to be part of the channels to receive His blessings. As you set your altar of prayer and altar of sacrifice on fire this season, you shall experience the possibility power of God in your life that will turn all impossible situation around in your life, in Jesus name. 

PRAYER: Your altar of prayer and sacrifice is on fire today and onwards, in Jesus name!
