Luke 24:49 "And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."

Let me start by quoting Acts 1:8 which says: "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem,...and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Looking at this portion of the Bible, you will agree with me that
the assignment of the disciples was to take the gospel to the end of the earth. But there's a requirement given to them if the assignment must be fulfilled. The requirement is "Tarry in Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS INSTRUCTION?

1) Tarrying in this context connotes waiting. We live in a generation where everybody is in haste. Nobody wants to wait. The Bible says in Prov 28:20 that: "A faithful man shall abound with blessings: BUT HE THAT MALKETH HASTE..SHALL NOT BE INNOCENT." Beloved, if you must operate in power, never be in a hurry, tarry with God. Those who are in haste instead of them to wait can never be innocent. This is why we have fake powers on our altars today.

2) Tarrying also connotes fasting. This is what David meant when he said: "...my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is...To see thy power oh God" (Ps 63:1-2). You cannot operate in power when you are lazy to fast. Jesus said: "This kind (of power) can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting" (Mk 9:29).

Beloved, if you don't want to operate in counterfeit power as it is in many lives today, especially in the lives of so-called men of God, then, be in the waiting room of God, in prayers and in fastings and the genuine power of God from on high shall rest on you suddenly.
