Proverbs 3:9 "Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase."
A Pastor friend shared a thought with me on the subject of thanksgiving and I believe it will bless you this morning. We understand from scriptures that thanksgiving is to return with a token to express gratitude for something good done to you by someone, in this case, God. Anyone with a genuine sense of value will not just want to remain at the receiving end. He will also want to give out in appreciation. Gratitude is the health and sustenance of every relationship, including our relationship with God.
The truth is that all that God does, big or small, in our lives this year is by His grace. Most times, we don't qualify for or deserve them. So, the payment value for all that God does for us is thanksgiving. (Read the story of one leper that returned to give thanks in LK.17:11-19).
Not being thankful to God in everything means taking Him for granted (1Thes 5:18). In Genesis chapter 4, Cain and Abel had learnt the act of returning to God with a token to give thanks to God. God accepted Abel and his token and rejected Cain's (Gen 4:1-5). Why? Proverbs 3 verse 9 exhorts us to honour God with our substance (our token).
When we return in thanksgiving, we provoke heaven's frequency to do more. That was how David secured a trans-generational dynasty (2Sam 24:24-25). Thanksgiving guarantees the release of the promises of God in our lives. As the year ends, there could be promises you believed God for, yet to materialise. Engage thanksgiving for their release. Thank God as if it has already happened. God can never be late.
PRAYER: As you return with a token to appreciate God this season, you shall never experience down time again in Jesus name.
