1Thess 5:18 "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

There are enemies within you seeking to choke your thankful heart. We shall examine some of these enemies. But before that I want you to know that these enemies don't want you to believe that God's will for you is to be thankful showing you that life is not going for you as planned or desire. I want you to remember that apostle Paul who said it is God's will for us to be thankful in all circumstances in today's anchor scripture said so during shipwreck, imprisonment, false accusations and beatings.

The perfect example of a thankful heart in the midst of deep sorrow is Jesus Christ Himself.  On the eve of His crucifixion, He took the bread and blessed it, then raised the cup and gave thanks, even though He knew full well what they stood for.  He knew that within hours His body would be broken beyond recognition and His blood would be dripping from thorns in His brow, a spear in His side and spikes in His hands and feet. People would be spitting on Him, and watch Him die. He knew all of it.  He had been telling His disciples that this hour would come.  And when it did, He gave thanks.

What was the basis for His thanksgiving?  He knew it would please His Father to provide redemption for the world, no matter what the cost. He saw the joy that was before Him (Heb 12:2). What is happening in your life right now is not what you bargained for in January. Yes, God knows the purpose why He is permitting them in your life. So, take all of your heartaches, disappointments, injustices and betrayals and give thanks to God and see Him turn your mess into message.

PRAYER: Receive grace to be thankful to God, in Jesus name.
