TEXT: "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy" (Matt 5:7).
Mercy is the nature and character of God. He expects us His children to exhibit merciful character too. From the scripture, we understand that mercy is the opposite of being cruel. Mercy includes showing goodness and kindness. Christians are not expected to be cruel, uncaring and wicked. They are to show kindness in the way they treat others.
Mercy is one of the essential characteristics of Christianity. In our journey of life, we should understand that life is a seed and we will always reap what we sow. A lot of us offend God in one way or the other and we want God to show us mercy. Many times, especially when we have been hurt so deeply, we find it very difficult to forgive and show mercy to those that have really hurt us.
Our anchor scripture today shows us that for us to receive mercy, we must sow mercy. In other words anything in life we want to reap we must first of all sow it. If we refuse to show mercy to others we should not expect God to show us mercy. The mercy we receive from God is directly proportional to the mercy we show to others.
Nothing will hold down a merciful man because he has no unforgiveness, malice, wickedness in his heart. He can approach the throne of God with confidence knowing full well that God will show him mercy. Blessed are the merciful for they will obtain mercy in return.
PRAYER: For the mercy you have sown in time past, receive full compensation now, in Jesus name.
